About our name and logo...
Grendel is the troll or ogre-like monster from the Old English poem Beowulf. This classic Anglo-Saxon epic tale of warriors, monsters and heroism has long been accorded its place in literature, though it is sometimes only vaguely remembered as a required text for many English students

In the Old English poem, composed between the 7th and 10th centuries, Grendel is a monster, or half-monster half-man creature (described with different terms such as ork and ettin). Grendel is known for haunting a warrior village and stalking it for victims of revenge and terror. In the poem, the hero Beowulf avenges the murders of his compatriots by battling Grendel and wounding him so grievously that he returns to his mother's lair to expire. Beowulf later finds Grendel's mother's cave and kills this monster as well. After becoming King in his own home land, Beowulf later battles a treasure-guarding serpent dragon. This unnamed dragon is the basis for our logo.

The epic poem Beowulf, like many traditional Northern European mythological stories, such as Hrolf Kraki, Bodvar Bjarki, and Grettissaga (Nordic and Saxon sagas), have a common theme. They are derivatives of the ancient "Bear's son tales" which is a common European folklore characteristically including heroes, monsters, underground caverns and captive maidens. They are tales of treason and magical weapons or talismans.

As Grendel is often confused with the later monster-dragon Beowulf battles, we chose to use this treasure-guarding dragon as the basis for our logo but chose to use the commonly known and connected name, The Grendel, as our moniker, denoting the folkloric idea of a treasure trove guarded by a dragon. We hope you find the same connection under The Grendel dragon and our entire product/service line.
